Treatment of diabetic foot ulcers now possible in days not in years

15% of diabetics suffer from foot ulcers. This condition is called (diabetic foot ulcer) in medical terms. Complete healing of these wounds takes a long time and the risk of reinfection remains. These injuries also lead to amputation in 70% of cases.

However, an international research team has claimed to heal diabetic foot ulcers in days through research.

Team Professor Gopal Nath of Banaras Hindu University's (BHU) Microbiology Institute of Medical Sciences Department and his team have opted for an alternative treatment approach, leaving aside the conventional treatment that involves antibiotics.

He says that treatment with antibiotics can take years and the chances of re-infection are many times higher.

Scientists have claimed that a food supplement that uses viruses to kill infections is the latest solution to antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Experts tested bacteriophage therapy on such patients and published the results in the National Center for Biotechnology Information of the US National Institutes of Health.

In the study, 20 patients were selected who were suffering from non-healing diabetic foot ulcer for 6 weeks. Using the food supplement, it was observed that the ulcer healed within a few weeks and the injured skin first. Jessie came back to normal.

Another study selected 48 patients whose wounds had not healed for 6 weeks and were continuing conventional wound care. After that, they tried to cure them through on-food supplements, the result of which was 100%.

Research shows that this method of treatment is effective in both diabetic and non-diabetic conditions. However, it takes a little longer for the wound to heal in diabetic patients.
